Trade Policy review

The Trade Policy and Strategy Framework document has been finalized through consultations with relevant stakeholders within and outside of government. The Framework establishes more clearly the links between trade and industrial policy in South Africa to complement the National Industrial Policy Framework. The Document reviews South Africa’s trade performance and tariff regime since 1994 and recommends an approach and methodology to considering future directions for trade policy in South Africa in the medium term. This includes recommendations on future tariff reform, in line with industrial policy, as well as outlining policy approaches to the new trade issues. It also updates South Africa’s trade strategy with respect to bilateral, regional and multilateral engagements and negotiations.
