Deputy Minister Majola to Support SMMEs in the Umzimvubu municipality |
The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Fikile Majola will participate in a roadshow event aimed at supporting small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) in the Umzimvubu Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape. The event will take place in Mount Ayliff on Monday, 9 September 2019.
The event is in line with government’s transformation agenda to focus on building and strengthening the capacity of small businesses, so that they are able to contribute to economic growth and job creation. The National Development Plan (NDP) aims to create 11 million jobs by 2030 and the goal is to ensure that the bulk of the 11 million jobs are created by small businesses. The event provides a platform to discuss challenges affecting Umzimvubu Local Municipality-based SMMEs, as well as to look at ways to unlock local economic development opportunities and deal with hindrances. The interactive session will also enable government to interact with the small business owners, to better understand their challenges. The forum is hosted by the Economic Development Department in conjunction with the provincial Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism and the Umzimvubu Local Municipality. Other institutions who will participate in the event include relevant government departments, Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) including the Small Enterprise Finance Agency (Sefa) and the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), and agencies such as the South African Revenue Service (SARS) and the Company and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC). Participants will benefit from on-site services, such as formal registration of businesses, guidance on all SARS-related, assistance with business plans development, business mentoring, market access, financial and non-financial support.
