| Register organisations to receive financial support offered by the National Lotteries Commission (NLC). This was emphasised by the Client Liaison Officer of the NLC in Mpumalanga, Mr Thomas Masithe. He was addressing local residents at Sitintile Secondary School in KaNyamazane, during the education and awareness campaign held by the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti). The objective of the campaign was to educate the public about the regulation of the liquor industry, the socio-economic impact of alcohol abuse, legal and illegal gambling activities, how copyright can assist creative persons, debt relief measures to reduce the impact of high levels of over-indebtedness for certain over-indebted households in adverse economic circumstances, credit affordability and fundamental consumer rights. Masithe said the NLC exists to contribute towards socio-economic development and it was important for the community to maximise the opportunity by opening non-profit organisations, public trusts and non-profit companies to generate source of income as that will boost the reduction of joblessness and abject poverty. “We are here to inspire the KaNyamazane community, especially those who are passionate about charity programmes, sport, arts and culture to establish organisations that will gain them advantage of accessing our funds to be able to work towards successful projects that will benefit the community,” said Masithe. A community member of KaNyamazane, Ms Fikile Skosana lauded the dti and its stakeholders for taking time to visit their area to impart knowledge on various pieces of legislation that impact their lives and also sharing in-depth information on funding alternatives that can be explored to salvage the current state of unemployment. “The campaign will contribute positively to behavioural change in our community. We are now aware of which channels to follow to get financial backing for our recreational programmes. I was also intrigued to learn about the importance of protecting your Intellectual Property. It was an eye-opening experience coming from the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission representative,” highlighted Skosana.
