the dti Gives FS Company Chance to Seek Market in Tanzania |
| The ambitions of a Free State company to enter the international export market will become closer to reality when it participates in a trade and investment mission to Tanzania from 15-21 March 2020. Transfix Transformers South Africa will be one of the companies that will participate in the mission that is organised and funded by the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti). The purpose of the mission is assist Black Industrialists search for business opportunities in Tanzania. The mission is part of the department’s Black Industrialists Programme. The objective of the programme is to promote industrialisation, sustainable economic growth and transformation through the support of black-owned entities in the manufacturing sector. The programme of the mission will include a business seminar where businesspeople from South Africa and Tanzania will be informed about trade and investment opportunities that they can explore together in the two economies, as well as business-to-business interactions and site visits. The Chief Executive Officer of Transfix Transformers, Ms Mummy Molefi says her company has always harboured ambitions of operating in the international market and exporting its products to various countries. “The mission to Tanzania could not have come at a more opportune time. We have been receiving numerous enquiries and requests for quotations from individuals in Tanzania who showed interest in our products. We are happy that the mission will afford us an opportunity to market our products there. This will enables us to supply our products to customers in Tanzania directly,” says Molefi. Currently, Transfix manufactures low voltage distribution transformers for domestic usage by municipalities and independent contractors at a plant located in the Botshabelo Industrial Park. The park was upgraded by the dti as part of its Industrial Parks Revitalisation Programme. The company employs more about 100 at full capacity periods. “Securing a market in Tanzania will not only make us achieve our plans of entering the export market, but will also have a positive impact on our operations. We will be required to increase production in order to service the export orders and this means that our company will grow and we will be able to create more job opportunities,” adds Molefi. According to the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms Nomalungelo Gina, the mission is part of the dti’s efforts to assist Black Industrialists who have the capacity and capability to export manufactured products to explore export markets in the rest of the Africa. Market access is one of the three pillars of the Black Industrialists Programme. Others are capital provision and technical support.
