The Coega Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is expanding to include a Pharmaceutical and Vaccine Precinct, a move announced by the Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Parks Tau, on March 5, 2025. This expansion aims to establish a dedicated area for pharmaceutical and vaccine-related industries. The proposed extension targets both pandemic and routine vaccine capability production for influenza, malaria, cancer (oncology), cardiovascular diseases, and HIV. The pharmaceutical and vaccine precinct will be the first of its kind on the continent and will ensure that no African Country is denied access to treatments and vaccines for their citizens.
