The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) has successfully concluded the first leg of its Outward Selling Mission (OSM) in Lagos, Nigeria. Over the past three days, the South African companies participated in a robust programme of trade and investment seminars, business-to-business engagements, and sector-specific networking opportunities.
A highlight of the programme was the delegation’s participation in the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) International Business Conference and Expo, also known as Invest Nigeria. The event brought together policymakers, industry experts, and business leaders from across the continent, and offered South African companies a valuable opportunity to engage with stakeholders, explore areas of mutual interest, and gain insights into Nigeria’s evolving business landscape.
The Chief Director of Export Promotion at the dtic, Ms Zanele Sanni, emphasised the tangible outcomes of the mission, noting that participating companies were able to identify partners and secure promising leads in Nigeria’s priority sectors.
“Our engagements in Lagos have highlighted Nigeria’s interest in partnerships across key sectors such as agro-processing, mining equipment and technology services, and infrastructure development. While we are still awaiting formal feedback from the participating South African companies, we anticipate that the mission has opened valuable avenues for future collaboration and joint ventures. Importantly, it has positioned our businesses to explore opportunities within the AfCFTA framework, confirming the viability of the West African market as viable region for our market diversificantion efforts.” said Sanni.
The first leg of the OSM has reinforced strong economic ties between South Africa and Nigeria, creating momentum for further collaboration and partnerships. Today, the delegation will depart Lagos for Accra, Ghana, to commence the second leg of the mission, where similar platforms will be used to deepen market access and strengthen regional integration.
Through missions such as this, the dtic continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting South African exporters, stimulating demand for value-added goods and services, and promoting job creation and investment back home.
