Molamu Majories & Thari Joint Venture will join the South African Outward Selling Mission to Madrid, Spain, from 25–29 November 2025. Led by the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic), the mission advances South Africa’s strategic goal of expanding trade and industrial partnerships. The delegation will showcase local capabilities at Rail Live 2025, one of the world’s premier platforms for rail technology and innovation.

Rail Live 2025, held at IFEMA Madrid, brings together railway operators, manufacturers, and suppliers to showcase the latest technologies and innovations in passenger and freight transport. The event will attract thousands of professionals, feature over 300 speakers, and host 250 exhibitors, offering opportunities for networking and business development.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of Molamu Majories & Thari Joint Venture, Mr Luther Makobe, the company specialises in railway construction, maintenance, and on-track machinery operations. It was established to deliver locally engineered solutions that meet global standards and reduce reliance on imported technologies.

“We started Molamu Majories & Thari Joint Venture to fill a gap in the market for locally developed, high-performance rail solutions that meet international engineering requirements. Our business is built on technical excellence, strong partnerships, and a commitment to improving operational performance,” says Makobe.

Over the years, Molamu Majories & Thari Joint Venture has expanded its capabilities, secured key contracts, achieved recognised industry standards, and built a skilled technical workforce.

“Participating in Rail Live 2025 allows us to engage with leading operators, manufacturers, and policymakers, benchmark ourselves against global standards, and establish new commercial relationships,” he adds.

Makobe highlights the company’s forward-looking initiatives, noting that they are investing in digital transformation, predictive maintenance, automation, and advanced engineering solutions designed to improve lifecycle efficiency and support more sustainable rail operations.

“Our goal is to provide integrated, data-driven systems that enhance reliability while reducing long-term operating costs for our clients. By innovating in this way, we are positioning ourselves to better meet evolving industry demands and deliver long-term value to rail operators across the sector,” he says.

He also acknowledges the dtic’s support, noting its contribution to expanding industry opportunities.

“This mission demonstrates government’s confidence in local industry and provides a platform for South African firms to showcase innovation, technical capability, and solutions that perform even in demanding operating environments. It reflects a commitment to growing South Africa’s industrial footprint in global markets,” says Makobe.

Through its participation, Molamu Majories & Thari Joint Venture aims to highlight South Africa’s engineering capabilities, strengthen industrial partnerships, and explore strategic growth opportunities in Europe and beyond.
