Deputy Minister Majola Arrives in China to Woo Investors to SA Special Economic Zones |
| The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Fikile Majola has arrived in Chengdu, China to woo investors during the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) Investment Roadshow that will take place from tomorrow to Friday, 6 September 2019.
The objective of the roadshow is for SEZ operators to showcase investment opportunities in their respective zones, and also for the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) to derive value from the cooperation agreements with China on SEZs, particularly as South Africa embarks on industrialisation and mineral beneficiation programmes. Majola, who will be accompanied by the South African SEZs representatives, as well as officials from Eskom and the South African Revenue Service, will address delegates at a stakeholder engagement session and also visits the Chengdu Economic and Technological Development Zones. Majola says the dti is planning to increase awareness of the existence of the SEZs and sell their value proposition to both local and international investors. “To this end, we will utilise our investment promotion missions, investment conferences as well as the annual SEZ conference to showcase SEZ investment opportunities to potential investors,” said Majola Majola will also meet with the China National Development Reformed Commission and Bank of China to discuss further cooperation on developing industrial capabilities and transfer of innovation and technology between the two countries. He will also seek firm commitments from prospective investors from China to invest in the South African SEZs. Enquiries: |
