Two of the Limpopo businesspeople who participated in the Anuga Food and Beverage Trade Fair in Germany this week are optimistic that they will be exporting their products to Europe in the near future.
Lekkershop, which is based in Lephalale, and Setšong Tea Crafters, which is located at the Ga-Matlala Ramoshebo village near Marble Hall, were part of the 30 companies that were supported by the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) to showcase their products at the popular trade show that took place from 4-8 October 2025.
The objective was to assist the South African agro-processing companies expose their products to international buyers and importers in order to access export markets in Europe and beyond.
The Chief Executive Officer of Setšong Tea Crafters, Ms Retang Phaahla, says she is confident that the trade leads that she generated during the fair will develop into tangible deals that will see her tea-manufacturing company exporting products to various countries of the world.
“Anuga 2025 was an amazing experience for us. We interacted with a lot of international buyers and importers from different countries. These include the host country Germany, as well as Japan, Türkiye, United Kingdom and the United States of America. They showed a great deal of interest in sourcing our products,” says Phaahla.
“As a result, we generated a significant number of good quality trade leads that we will take time to sift through when we are back home, and follow up on the ones that have the potential to be tangible deals,” she adds.
The Managing Director of Lekkershop, Ms Ansu Leany, described the Anuga Trade Fair as a really amazing experience and a real eye-opener for her, as it was for the first time her company participated in an international exhibition. She is confident thate her brownies will be able to hold their own in the export market, after a thorough information-gathering exercise she conducted at the fair.
“This has been a massive opportunity. I have been thinking small as a company but here at Anuga my vision has been tremendously broadened. I have learnt that the sky is the limit in terms of export opportunities that are available for us as a small company in Limpopo to explore,” says Leany.
“She adds that her company has always been planning to enter the export market.
“I realised that if we were to fully take advantage of the numerous leads that we have generated here we will need to expand our factory and increase production. This has really been a real eye-opener to me. I have gathered so much information that I am now confident that we can successfully enter the xport market as soon as we are ready,” adds Leany.
