Minister Patel Meets with New Woolworths CEO to Deepen Partnership |
| The Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Ebrahim Patel, met with the newly appointed Group CEO of Woolworths Holdings, Mr Roy Bagattini, and Woolworths South Africa CEO, Ms Zyda Rylands, in Cape Town today. The discussion focused on developing deeper partnerships between one of South Africa’s leading retailers and Government. “We had a very positive discussion and I look forward to working with the company to strengthen key supply chains in South Africa and improve the investment climate,” said Minister Patel. “Woolworths is a partner in the Master Plan for the Clothing, Textiles and Footwear industry, an initiative which is expected to create 120 000 jobs in the clothing, textiles and footwear retail value chain over the next 10 years. The company has also been actively engaged in the development of the Sugar Masterplan, which we expect to sign with the industry next month,” added Patel. At the meeting the Woolworths leaders reaffirmed their commitment to active citizenry and participation in initiatives that support inclusive growth in South Africa. “This resonates very well with our transformation vision of Inspiring inclusive growth for all our people.
