The Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Mr Parks Tau, will host China’s Vice Minister of State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), Mr SHU Wei who will be leading a high-level delegation from his country on Monday, 29 June 2026, for landmark discussions in efforts to further strengthen economic ties between the two countries.

With the Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Ms Alexandra Abrahams also in attendance, the meeting is expected to usher the signing of critical Memoranda of Understanding between China’s regulation authority and agencies of the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic), the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) and South African National Accreditation System (SANAS).

This milestone builds on the Framework Agreement on the Economic Partnership for Shared Development (CADEPA) signed earlier this year in Beijing, by Minister Tau and People’s Republic of China, Minister Wang Wentao.

This led to the negotiations of Early Harvest Agreement between the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) and China, aimed at concluding reciprocal arrangement. Most importantly, on 1 May 2026, China implemented its unilateral Zero-Tariff treatment arrangement for 20 non-least developed African countries including South Africa.

The meeting will take place as follows:

Date: 29 June 2026

Time: 10:00-12:00

Venue: Ops Room, the dtic Campus, 77 Meintjies Street, Sunnyside, Pretoria

Members of the media who wish to attend the session should confirm attendance by sending their details (including vehicle information) to Phumzile Kotane on pkotane@thedtic.gov.za by 4pm on Friday, 26 June 2026.
