The objective of the scheme is to develop export markets for South African products and services and to recruit new foreign direct investment into the country. Gulfood has been hailed as the leading food and beverage exhibition in the Gulf region bringing together exporters, importers, distributors, retailers, wholesalers, food producers and restaurateurs from more than a hundred countries. The exhibition draws about 5 000 exhibitors and more than 100 000 visitors from 120 countries. annually According to the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies, participating at Gulfood 2019 enables South African companies to showcase their capabilities in the food and non-alcoholic beverage sectors, whilst highlighting the various investment opportunities that South Africa has to offer. “The recent State Visit to the United Arab Emirates by President Cyril Ramaphosa has elevated the trade and investment relationship between the two countries and presented additional opportunities for South African companies to collaborate with the UAE in respect of increasing trade and investment, capacity building and exchange of expertise,” says Davies.
