The new leadership of the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition will get an opportunity to outline its plan of action when it briefs parliament on the department’s annual performance plan tomorrow, Friday, 12 July 2024 from 10:00.
The Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Mr Parks Tau, and Deputy Ministers, Mr Andrew Whitfield and Mr Zuko Godlimpi, will lead the presentation and discussions with members of parliament belonging to the Portfolio Committee on Trade, Industry and Competition.
Since their appointment two weeks ago, the ministers have been engaging with the department’s senior managers in various sessions aimed at understanding the work of the department. Yesterday they hosted a strategic session that included the department’s agencies.
The ministers used the sessions, and a number of media interviews that they conducted recently, to outline their key priorities in regards to the implementation of the mandate of the department to achieve the objectives of the 7th Administration. The accelerated implementation of the industrialisation strategy that promotes jobs and rising incomes, and transformation that builds an inclusive economy, are top on their agenda.
The ministers have emphasised that the industrial policy and strategy that they would like to see the department implementing will be aimed at combining economic growth with transformation, growing employment, boosting local production, growing exports and expanding African trade, increasing investment and establishing a more reliable and low-cost energy system while greening the economy overall.
