Deputy Minister Majola Takes the dti to Evaton

The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) together with the Emfuleni Local Municipality will host an outreach programme at Extension 4, Evaton on Friday, 13 September 2019. The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Fikile Majola and the Executive Mayor of Emfuleni, Councillor Gift Moerane will both address the community at Mafatshane Community Hall from 10:00.

The purpose of the programme is to empower and create opportunities for youth, women and people living with disabilities and to inform business owners to utilise the opportunities from the dti to empower their businesses through available incentives.

According to Majola, the campaign, which targets businesses and entrepreneurs in and around Evaton, seeks to strengthen government’s commitment to empowering rural and peri-urban communities to accelerate job creation and sustainable economic development in the country.

“In July we made a commitment in Parliament that our Budget Vote must help us respond to the real challenges faced by our people. We must reach out to men and women who are confronted with poverty, unemployment and inequality. We also highlighted that as government we need to inspire the young people of Evaton to dare to dream. Our communities must continue to believe in the prospects of a Gauteng City region with job opportunities. We have to make the dream of the Vaal River City a reality,” says Majola.

During his maiden State of the City Address in July 2019, the Executive Mayor Moerane said the immediate task of Emfuleni was to integrate the economic development strategy to the Financial Recovery Plan in order to ensure that high impact economic development initiatives are successfully implemented; and that more progress was realised between September 2019 and March 2020

“Emfuleni Local Municipality through these partnerships will co-host such initiatives which must be sustained and spread systematically across the municipality to economically empower our communities,” said Moerane.

Entrepreneurs attending the event will be advised on how to start, grow and sustain their businesses, during interactive information-sharing sessions hosted by the dti agencies and strategic partners at their exhibition stand.
