the dti to Showcase SA Oil and Gas Companies at Africa Oil Week Summit

The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) will showcase fourteen local oil and gas companies in the South African National Pavilion set up at the 26th Africa Oil Week (AOW) Summit, which will take place in Cape Town, from 4-8 November 2019.

The AOW is a leading event for Africa’s upstream oil and gas sector. It is attended by more than 1 500 senior oil and gas decision-makers from the oil and gas value-chain that will be seeking to source partners, invest in new suppliers and broker new deals. The 2019 Summit is expected to attract 24 ministers of energy, 20 national oil companies and more than hundred Chief Executive Officers.

The inclusion of the South African Pavilion is aligned with the country’s strategic goal of implementing an outward investment-led trade approach which aims to increase the country’s exporting capacity for diversified goods and services into the rest of Africa. It is also aimed at promoting industrial development, job creation, foreign direct investment and economic growth to position South Africa as a globally competitive investment destination.

The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms Nomalungelo Gina, says the 2019 AOW will have a new insert called ‘South Africa Showcase’ which will showcase the country’s oil, gas and energy landscape and provide access to the top levels of regional and national government.

According to Gina, during South Africa Showcase ministers will directly address policy reforms and reveal proprietary information. Delegates will meet regional governments looking for South African service providers and gain access to project tenders in the South Africa-Southern African Development Community region.

“The South African companies participating in the summit will also have the opportunity to meet with the biggest global players in the private sector. The showcase will be an excellent opportunity for South African companies which are looking to access Pan-African energy tenders or global debt and equity partners to expand their businesses,” says Gina.
