The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) invites South African companies operating in agriculture and agro-processing, global business services, metals and mining (focusing on mining equipment), manufacturing (including automotive parts, components and accessories), advanced manufacturing (battery storage, healthcare and aerospace/defence), and green hydrogen to apply for virtual participation in the Expo 2020 Dubai that will take place from 1 October 2021 – 31 March 2022. The deadline for the submission of application forms is 23 July 2021.

Expo 2020 Dubai, hosted in a global gateway and one of the world’s most dynamic and future-focused economies, as well as a hub for international trade, will be a stage to meet and do business. The world’s largest gathering of commerce, culture and industry will also be an opportunity for businesses to connect with a global audience. It will catalyse collaboration, stimulate innovation and create tangible opportunities for South African businesses.

According to the Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Mr Fikile Majola, the aim of South Africa’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai includes showcasing South Africa’s industrial capabilities, products and service offerings and promoting South Africa as a leading technology hub on the African continent.

“The Expo will provide us with an opportunity to profile South Africa’s innovations, industrial diversity and commercialisation opportunities. Our participation will also provide us with a platform to market and promote South Africa’s trade and investment opportunities and  offer connectivity across South African business, government and civil society to engage with international participants, investors and partners. We will also use the Expo as a vehicle to market and promote South Africa’s international heritage sites and tourism,” says Majola.

The following services will be offered by the dtic to qualifying firms:

  • Digital Export Marketing: hosting and display space within the South African National Pavilion, for content produced, aligned with the objectives of the Pavilion,
  • Export Bridges Facility: A virtual business-to-business matchmaking platform between international businesses and South African exporters. In addition, there will be various partnership opportunities with the Team South Africa brand, where business and brand can gain exposure to millions of global visitors, including hosting an event at the South African pavilion.
