The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) will host the South Africa -Saudi Arabia Business Forum at the Sandton Convention Centre, Johannesburg on Monday 14 October 2024 from 13:00.
The high-level event will bring together key government officials and business leaders to explore opportunities for strengthening trade, investment, and expertise exchange between the two nations.
The forum will review the progress made since the launch of the Saudi Vision 2030 in 2016 and examine avenues to further enhance cooperation between the countries, particularly focusing on private-sector engagement.
It will also provide a platform to discuss areas of shared interest, including trade, industry, mining, energy, tourism, agriculture, food exports, and health and pharmaceutical industry and logistics services, as both countries seek to unlock new growth opportunities through deeper bilateral relations.
The Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Mr Parks Tau, and the Saudi Minister of Commerce, Dr Majid Al-Kassabi will address the forum.
“The South Africa-Saudi Arabia Business Forum provides an invaluable opportunity to reinforce the strong partnership that already exists between our two countries. We expect this platform to advance our mutual interests in expanding trade and investment opportunities, while also creating pathways for greater private sector collaboration,” says Tau.
The forum will serve as a strategic review of Saudi Vision 2030, which has already made significant strides in diversifying the Saudi economy and reducing its dependence on oil. Participants will delve into the progress of various projects, assess areas for further cooperation, and explore how South African companies can contribute expertise and innovation to support the ongoing transformation.
“Our goal through this forum is not only to celebrate the achievements since the inception of Saudi Vision 2030 but also to outline clear strategies for strengthening the ties between South Africa and Saudi Arabia in the years to come. In alignment with South Africa’s National Development Plan, we see immense potential in expanding our collaboration, particularly in the areas of energy, technology, and industrial development,” adds Tau.
In addition to policy discussions, the forum will provide a space for business-to-business engagements, where private sector players from both countries can establish connections, explore joint ventures, and share industry insights.
