The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) in partnership with Gauteng Department of Economic Development and Productivity SA will host the Workplace Challenge Programme (WPC) milestone workshop at The Innovation Hub in Pretoria on Wednesday, 24 July 2024 from 10:00.

The workshop will take place under the theme “Productivity is Key to Unlocking our Potential, Achieving our Goals, and Living a Fulfilling Life”.

Various stakeholders, beneficiaries of the programme and representatives of local businesses will attend the workshop where they will share lessons learnt and achievements made during the implementation of the programme, as well as discuss the way forward.  Representatives of businesses that are participating in the programme will also share the impact of the WPC Programme on their enterprises.

The WPC aims to improve productivity and competitiveness of South African enterprises and sectors through improved value chain efficiencies; supporting enterprises in clusters for industrial competitiveness, implementing processes for continuous improvement and, facilitating skills development, amongst others.

The programme is housed within Productivity SA’s Competitiveness Improvement Services (CIS) Unit. The unit aims to create an enabling environment conductive for entrepreneurship and sustainable enterprises that contribute to inclusive growth, preserve jobs and create productive employment and decent work.

The event will also showcase the latest roll-out of the Quality and Productivity Improvement /Kaizen SA Programme which is aimed at promoting QPI techniques to develop hands-on and practical knowhow.

Over 100 companies employing more than 2 000 employees have been supported through the programme from 2019 to 2023 in Gauteng. In the 2023-2024 financial year, the programme supported 102 enterprises. 76% of the supported businesses were black-owned, 46% owned by women and 19% owned by youth. It also supported enterprises within the Special Economic Zones (SEZs), industrial parks, as well as those linked to the sector master plans.
