The South African businesspeople who are in the United Arab Emirates to participate in two high-profile exhibitions taking place from tomorrow are looking forward with excitement to showcasing their products to the global world.

A business delegation comprising sixteen agro-processing firms will showcase products in the Gulfood exhibition in Dubai, while eleven companies that operate in the defence sector will participate in the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) that will take place in Abu Dhabi. Both international exhibitions take place from 20-24 February 2023.

The companies’ participation has been made possible by the Department of Trade Industry and Competition (the dtic) that has set up national pavilions at the two trade shows where the South African companies will exhibit their products.

The Business Development Executive of Fuchs Electronics, Mr Henry Adams says he is looking forward to interacting with existing and new customers during the IDEX show.

“The UAE and the rest of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries are some of the biggest defence importers in the world. Therefore, it is important that we are visible in order to remain relevant in the market. We are already operating in this market but we would like to increase our footprint by growing our market share and exchanging our knowledge, expertise and capabilities with relevant players in the market,” says Adams, whose company is based in Alberton, South of Johannesburg, where they are manufacturing electronic fuses, 98% of whom are exported to various countries.

The Group Marketing Manager of Canvas and Tent Group, Ms Karen Coetzer is optimistic that her company’s redeployable camps systems will attract the attention of many people during the IDEX exhibition.

“We are in the process of expanding our footprint and are confident that the innovative products and solutions that we will be marketing here will capture the attention of many people. We are specifically focussing on the field hospitals because of what is currently going on in parts of the world,” adds Coetzer. The head office of her company, which employs 600 people is in Pretoria while the factory is in Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal

The International Sales Manager of Carmien Tea, Mr Charl Rudman says he is excited and looking forward to a great show post Covid-19. He hopes to expand the footprint of his tea company in the Middle East. He will be speaking to new retail buyers and distributors who could assist with selling the tea in the Middle East and reach other countries as the show is visited by a wide range of visitors and buyers.

“We have entered the Middle East market in a small scale. We are hoping that the show will afford us an opportunity to expand our export market with our spices. We are here to look for more and big opportunities.  Expanding the footprint of our products will definitely lead to increased staff compliment,” says the Marketing Executive at Danie’s Sauces and Enterprises, Ms Tarina Breytenbach.

The Owner and Founder of Brendas Preserves, Ms Brenda Jager is optimistic that the  show will be beneficial and introduce her jams, glazes, spices and different condiments to a wider audience. Importantly she is optimistic she will get good trade leads.

Gulfood is regarded as the largest food and beverage trade exhibition in the Middle East. It attracts a large number of participants from the Middle East and the world at large. IDEX is the only international trade show in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region showcasing the latest technologies in land, sea and air sectors of defence.
