Premier Business Awards to celebrate 25 years of economic progress

The 2019 South African Business Premier Awards (SAPBA) will celebrate 25 years of notable strides made in different sectors of the economy by recognising businesspeople who have contributed to the growth of the South African economy. The prestigious event will take place at the Sandton Convention Centre on Wednesday, 13 March 2019. The Awards are presented by the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti), Proudly South African and Brand South Africa.

Entrepreneurs will be competing in categories that are aligned to the strategic focus of the dti’s Industrial Policy Action Plan (IPAP) which supports and complements the National Development Plan (NDP) and the New Growth Path (NGP) that serve as an overarching instrument for the development and implementation of the dti’s strategies, policies and related pieces of legislation and regulations.

According to the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies, the dti along with partner organisations, government has been putting measures in place to create an economy which is dynamic, globally competitive and inclusive for businesspeople.

“The awards are an opportunity for government, and South Africa as a whole, to recognise exceptional businesses and the businesspeople who drive them, ranging from emerging start-ups to established business institutions from the dawn of democracy,” says Davies.

The Acting Chief Marketing Officer of Brand South Africa, Ms Sithembile Ntombela says the contribution of the businesspeople who are finalists of the competition   to the economic development of South Africa and their role in strengthening the country’s competitiveness is what makes South Africa a “one of a kind’ country”.

The Chief Executive Officer of Proudly South African, Mr Eustace Mashimbye says this year’s awards have seen another crop of outstanding entries which demonstrates that local companies are all striving for the same thing, and that is excellence and growth in their respective businesses which contributes to the growth of the country’s economy as a whole.
