Description
Primary Market Research (PMR) and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) assistance is provided to partially compensate entities for costs incurred in researching and defining new export markets and/or recruiting new FDI into South Africa by visiting potential buyers or investors in foreign countries.
Eligible enterprises
- Entities that manufacture products or provide services in South Africa and fall within the dtic priority sectors.
- Entities that outsource their manufacturing process in South Africa and fall within the dtic priority sectors.
- South African export trading houses and commission agents representing at least three local manufacturing and/or service entities that fall within the dtic priority sectors.
- South African export councils, industry associations and joint action groups representing at least five of its members in the local manufacturing and/or services sectors that fall within the dtic priority sectors.
Financial assistance available to SMMEs and HDIs
- Economy class return airfare (maximum of R20 000)
- Subsistence allowance (R3 000 per day for two appointments per day; maximum of 10 days)
- Transport of samples (maximum of R1 500)
- Additional financial support for persons with disabilities (maximum of R35 000)
- Design and print of marketing materials (maximum of R5 000)
General information
A completed application must be submitted to the dtic three to six months before the commencement date of the event.

- Certificate of Incorporation
- B-BBEE Certificate or affidavit, where applicable
- SARS Tax Compliance Status (TCS) pin document
- Financial Statements: Audited/Reviewed/Compiled
- Brochure or website print-out of products or services
- Exporter registration certificate (not applicable for service-oriented entities, export councils, industry associations and joint action groups)
- Export marketing plan
- Commission agent: Three agency agreements with entities to be represented at the specific event
- Export trading house: Three signed letters of permission from entities to be represented at the specific event
- South African export councils, industry associations and joint action groups: Five signed letters of permission from entities to be represented at the specific event
- Entities that outsource their manufacturing process or parts thereof: Valid formal outsourcing/manufacturing agreement/s. The agreement should be signed and dated, and stipulate the outsourced activities and expiry date of the agreement.
- Detailed work itinerary with at least two appointments per day
- Confirmation letters of appointments
- Three air ticket quotations from three different service providers of choice or a letter stating that assistance will not be required in this regard, including the reason as to why (e.g. not applicable for virtual events)
- Three quotations for freight-forwarding from three different service providers of choice or a letter stating that assistance will not be required in this regard, including the reason as to why (e.g. samples will be taken as excess baggage)
- Three quotations for marketing materials from three different service providers of choice or a letter stating that assistance will not be required in this regard, including the reason as to why (e.g. using promotional materials in stock)
- Motivation and three quotations for additional assistance for person with disabilities
