Facilitating a competitive and inclusive environment for South Africa’s Hydrogen Entrepreneurs by the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) will be highlighted during the Hydrogen Economy Indaba when the Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Mr Fikile Majola delivers his keynote address. The online indaba will take place under the theme “Hydrogen Economy – An Opportunity for South Africa to Create an inclusive Energy Sector with Significant Black Participation,” on Thursday, 14 October 2021 at 09:00.

The Indaba seeks to promote the Hydrogen Economy as major opportunity for South Africa to address the challenges of developing an inclusive economy. It will also outline opportunities for South Africans, with particular focus on black entrepreneurs in the emerging hydrogen economy. It will further discuss possible policy instruments that the government can implement to ensure maximum participation by South Africans with a focus Back Industrialists.

According to Majola, the Hydrogen Council that is a global initiative, estimates that the hydrogen economy will achieve annual revenues of more than $2, 5 trillion and create more than 30 million jobs globally by 2050. For this reason, Majola says government together with the private sector need to work hand in hand to make sure the South Africane economy flourishes and create the much-needed jobs.

“Government is committed to working with all stakeholders to advance the development and creation of an enabling environment for the development of this new promising industry. Together with key partners, government will continue to support the development of the hydrogen economy and fuel cell manufacturing capabilities,” says Majola.
